Good Morning!
Today is the day. (I’m doing a little dance) Case Study #3, The TorTalon File is now available online in eBook format over at Amazon. You can find it here. Woohoo! I am excited, proud and nervous! I decided that I would distract myself by telling you a little about . . . myself.
What Inspires me?
This is not an easy question to answer, mainly because the answers change – often. Some examples would be
My walks
– I was out for a walk recently and it had rained the day before and all across the street were dried up worms who had unsuccessfully tried to survive the rainfall. To me they looked like tiny ouroboros’ the way they were curled into circles on the road. A whole story idea sprang to mind out of poor dead worms.
-On another walk, I was going over a story problem in my mind, asking myself (over and over) if I should destroy a character. It had been haunting me for a few days and as I was walking, a Red-winged black bird screeched at me from the field he was perched in and I had my answer! Of course, I needed to destroy my character utterly!
My dreams
-More often than not, when I’m trying to puzzle out a story I will get inspiration from dreams or the thoughts that come to me as I’m trying to fall asleep. I’m usually pretty good about remembering them the next day, thank goodness! Because I’ve had a lot of resolutions come at that time.
-My big story – the one I have had the most trouble finishing (letting go of) came to me in a dream. A dream by moonlight next to a tree. I wrote a short descriptive story about it and then eventually a town and characters sprang up around that little story that came from a dream.
My Characters
-My big story – (because I couldn’t bring myself to finish it) Ended up growing multiple story lines out of the different relationships to this story – and hence the birth of The Children of Forever! Each character becomes so fully alive to me that their families come out to play.
-My Short stories – These little side tales are born from a need to show the darker sides of my characters, or the terrible flaws in their society. I realize I’m being very cryptic right now, but that’s because I don’t want to give away too much in relation to the stories I have planned for release this year and next. Suffice it to say – the story is just getting started. If you are game to follow – I promise to take you on an epic journey through my worlds.
