I mentioned last week that Case Study #3 and all my current works in progress originally started with a dream I had had a couple of decades ago. Well, to be more precise, from a short descriptive story I wrote that was inspired by a dream. And I’d like to honor that ‘dream’ and the original short story by crafting a little something. I wish I could draw, because I would draw a beautiful old tree in late evening beneath a full moon with a young man casually leaning against the tree just beneath the moon. And at the base of the tree a young woman sitting on the ground just in front of the tree. Neither looking at the other, both with far away looks on their faces because a truth had been revealed and they are both processing the information. I would draw that for the cover and then hand write the story inside in calligraphy or something equally elegant but easy to read. I can see it, I wish I could recreate it in the real.
In all honesty, my handwriting is not bad, especially when you consider the fact I’m left handed. My drawing on the other hand, not so good. It’s inconsistent at best. I know I would nail the tree and the moon would be a bit oblong, and I might get the guy to look passably human, but the girl on the ground, forgetaboutit. I never got the hang of perspective and so she’d be all sorts of out of proportion and when compared to the guy – she may bot even look to be the same species. Which, technically they are not, but you shouldn’t be able to tell that at a glance.
The Children of Forever were born that day, even though I didn’t know it then. I had no idea it would grow to be two ancient families who enjoy an uneasy peace and are constantly dealing with elements within or on the edge of both families that would see that peace destroyed. I had no idea that so many characters would spring forth from that tiny detail. I want to make something beautiful for it.
By the way – those two by the tree are Seth and Andrea and you will meet them early next year
