As ‘launch’ day approaches, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I jokingly refer to Scarlett Ribbons as my personal Immortal Beloved. Probably shouldn’t. But I do. I gave it that nickname years and years ago, thinking it was my magnum opus and the one that would kill me. Writers are prone to hyperbolic and fatalistic thinking, I suppose. Truth was, I loved it too much to ever finish it. Is it my greatest work? Probably not. And it certainly won’t be my last. But it has led to so much.
My long-running inability (unwillingness) to finish it led to the creation of the Children of Forever Legacy Series. I wrote all around the story so I could avoid creating the ending that is nearly upon us. The first story I wrote after shelving Scarlett was RynRaven, followed by Case Study #3, The TorTalon file. And then, (to be released later) I took two of the stories I wrote before Scarlett Ribbons and turned those into prequels. These two will be Ream exclusives, because I may not release them to the public. But I haven’t 100% decided. Those will begin to drip release toward the end of summer.
I thought since everything will come out on Ream shortly, I should take a little time to explain what the Legacy series is and who the Children of Forever are. The Children of Forever, or as they are known to themselves – the Sioria, are a fractured race of magical creatures that have been on earth for thousands of years. Living right beside, and largely undetected by humans. Each possesses a unique set of powers, lending to the mythical world the humans only dream of and on occasion, attempt to possess. This little troublesome fact led to the great event many centuries ago, called the Schism. When the Sioria broke into two separate groups. The ones who hated the humans, believing themselves to be better than they are, and desired to remain ‘pure’ broke away from the more progressive Sioria and became known as the Immura. Ever at odds with each other, and yet forever dependent on one another, especially in dangerous times. Therefore, an Elder Council was created to work out differences. The Council is comprised of five individuals, two from either side. Elected every one hundred years. And one Supreme Unaligned who is appointed by the Elder Council every two hundred and fifty years. Usually, the oldest of the Sioria is chosen.
The Sioria themselves do not know for certain where they come from. And so, their faiths are as complex and varied as their human neighbors.
Due to the precarious nature of the Sioria and Immura alliance or lack thereof, they are eternally on the edge of war. Each side has developed and nurtured its own soldiers and super soldiers always at the ready in case the uneasy peace they enjoy is ever shattered.
That is just a snippet of who the Sioria are. You’ll have to read the stories for a deeper dive. And for reasons that will become clearer in the second half of Scarlett Ribbons – none of the above is ever mentioned in that story, except through tiny teases. (Far more back story can be found in Case Study #3, The TorTalon file and RynRaven, both of which will be available on Ream, see my page for further details)
Buckle up and dig in!
