There are several things I’ve set out to learn this year – 2025. I have lofty goals because this is the first year of my entire adult life that I can dedicate ‘full time’ to writing. Full time that is after my Mom duties have been fulfilled for the day, and since those don’t technically get fulfilled at any specific time of the day, that means sneaking in writing time around everything else. Everything else except a full-time job, so I have high hopes!
I’d thought about maybe starting up the blog again, but I couldn’t think of anything to really blog about. Seemed most everything had either been done or I just wasn’t interested in writing about it. I was prepped Scarlett Ribbons for a steady drip on Ream Stories when I decided I should study writing more in-depth now that I have the time to devote to it. I thought doing it properly in order to do my stories justice was necessary. Especially since my skills have basically fallen into the shitter. My sentences are drab, my characters are flat and one-dimensional. Not to mention my technical skills have been reduced to a first-grade level. I’m exaggerating – sort of.
I bought two new books: Writing Tools by Roy Peter Clark and The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler. I decided to tackle one chapter in each book every couple of days. It was as I was reading the first chapter of The Writer’s Journey I thought, hey! I’m going to rewrite RynRaven as I study these books. Then as I was reading Tool #1 in Writing I again thought, hey! I could blog about this as I go. Make it part of my accountability and consistency lessons. This is important because I have lofty goals for 2025. I plan to publish five books this year. Three of which are begun, one is a rewrite (RynRaven) and one is yet unknown to me. These goals may not be realistic, but I don’t care about that. It’s something to aim for.
Officially day one was Monday, January 6th. I don’t plan on marking each day, but at the outset, I thought I would.
Now I plan to determine how much to share in my regular public blogs compared to how I will have all the insider information on RynRaven on Teir 2 in Ream Stories. The idea of using RynRaven as a tool for my education came to me when I came to The Writer’s Journey beat #2 The Call to Adventure. Obviously, I don’t want to give the entire story away at the very beginning of this blog journey as I map out RynRaven. I could post all of RynRaven as it was originally published on Tier 2 and post a detailed blog there. I don’t know, if anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears. This is new. I have no set parameters, and I tend to chafe against rigidity.
I am excited though, I’m on the threshold of the deepest dive into writing I’ve ever taken.
